The Review:
Amara is a quartet of musicians (guitars, bass, vocals, drums) from Portland Oregon, who’s style of music falls under no category but for reference sake, they’re a progressive- alternative metal band.

I received a cd-r of their music a few months back and was pleasantly surprised with the originality they possess. Mostly any metal act, progressive or alternative is usually a formulaic release but Amara breaks that with it’s use of progressive and some psychedelic and spacey instrumentation. So you see it’s hard to compare them musically but after several listens of this cd-r I firmly believe that they will appeal to fans of Fates Warning, OSI, Pain of Salvation, Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree and others.

According to the band, the music on the cd-r is a early draft on some ideas, but to my ears they sound like finished products. They are in the process of recording the full release with the songs featured on this cd-r plus others. The anticipation of hearing that album is great, because I do believe it’ll be on many people’s top releases of 2006. In you want to hear their music, and I highly recommend you do, the band has set-up shop at MySpace.com with plenty of samples.
