The Review:

Direction is a French Canadian progressive rock band who‘s latest (and fourth) album ‘Est’ was released in 2008 on Unicorn Digital. To start with, the lyrics are sung in French, but they seem to flow quite well with the music. They combine classic sounds of the 70’s with a crystal clear modern production. The band is a trio and consists of MARCO PARADIS (Guitar, piano), SERGE TREMBLAY (Vocals, Bass, keyboards) and JEAN-CLAUDE TREMBLAY (drums)

There are 8 tracks on ‘Est’, which range from two to eleven minutes. The primary main influences that I hear are Genesis, Yes (for the keyboard melodies) and Rush (mostly on the guitar style). They also site influences of Pink Floyd, Styx, King Crimson & Led Zeppelin, which aren’t as obvious.

This is one of those gems that came out in 2008 that hasn’t received much press, which is a shame. As a whole this is a very good prog album, which I have to recommend to the fans of classic & modern progressive rock especially the bands mentioned above.
