The Review:

Okay this is my first and last exposure to the music of Faust due to the their style of experimental music which is sometimes bordering on noise. Sorry but that is what I got out of the music on their first DVD, Impressions which is accompanied by a 27 minute CD soundtrack to an upcoming video project by Zappi W. Diermaier. I’m sure long-time fans will enjoy this challenging DVD a lot more than myself. I prefer my music to have structure and melody but that’s my personal taste in music whether it be progressive or other.

The Impressions DVD consists of eleven tracks from the lengthy career of the German experimental band, Faust. According to band leader Zappi, many of the songs have been re-mixed, re-recorded and even re-titled in some cases. Each song is accompanied with an equally odd surreal video.

Lastly, this is not a release for th4e causual listener but more one for the long-time fans of Faust and the more exploratory side of progressive music.
