The Review:

Voivode Dracula is my first introduction to Karda Estra. I was very please to get a copy to review as I don’t get many promos from the Cyclops Label. Karda Estra, for those who don’t already know, is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Richard Wileman. The latest in his works is a conceptual album about Dracula.

Joining him are Ileesha Bailey ( vocals), Helen Dearnley (violin), Carol Hansford ( oboe, cor anglais, and vocals), Sarah Higgins ( cello), Zoe King ( flute, alto saxophone, clarinet, and vocals) and Michelle Williams ( clarinet). The music on Voivode Dracula is almost like a group of orchestral movements, beautifully done. Like most classical based music, the music is somber yet exciting enough to keep the listener interested.

Most of the music is instrumental except for Lucy- Festina Lente which features haunting ,ethereal vocals. Karda Estra is a band that requires a full sitting to fully enjoy the music. I found them to be somewhat similar to Univers Zero in parts. Excellent worthy addition to any music lover’s collection!
