The Review:

My first exposure to the French progressive rock band NeBeLNeST was with their 202 album, Nova Express. I was hooked with the band almost instantly with their clashing of element found in King Crimson, Univers Zero, Pink Floyd and so many other bands in the similar vein. NeBeLNeST is so much more than those bands, they inject a touch of modern feel to it.

On their latest and third album ZePTO, (second for the Cuneiform Records label) they continue to take me on a dark journey, sometimes chaotic but always keeping my interest. They never stay in the same gear at any particular time. They‘re by far, in my opinion one of the better progressive minded bands to surface from France.

Even though the music has a dark dense undertone, it’s never brooding or depressing. With each listen, you hear more things you missed in previous excursions. They dwell in an area between RIO (Rock In Opposition) and symphonic thus giving the best of both genres in one package.

ZePTO, is one of the better albums to come out in 2006, and if you’re the adventurous type like me, you’d get yourself a copy ASAP. You can hear for yourself at their MySpace page to fully appreciate their dark beautiful music.
