The Review:

Hailing from Portland Maine, By Blood Alone sent me their debut release Seas of Blood. At first I was apprehensive since both the band and album names brought images of some extreme metal band. Once I listened to the album, I was pleasantly proven wrong in my assumption. The band has a sound that encompasses styles like gothic & Celtic, progressive rock and metal. Two bands that come to mind when I hear By Blood Alone are Leger De Main and Mythologic, both hail from Eire, PA and both bands feature a female vocalist (same one).

Musically I hear a mix of modern and classic heavy metal bands. I would dare to say “insert any female fronted metal band here” mixed with Deep Purple and Black Sabbath style instrumentation and you get the core of what By Blood Alone sounds like. I do find them to be original sounding amongst bands like Nightwish, Epica, Within Temptation, and After Forever. I would also recommend fans of those bands to check out ‘Seas Of Blood’ immediately.
