The Review:

I previously reviewed Mytho’s self titled EP from 2008 which featured three tracks. One of those tracks, “Alpha Centauri” (6:13) is featured on their first full length album entitled In The Abstract . The line-up remains unchanged on the full length album. Musically the band treads in the Prog/AOR genres, leaning more towards the latter. There’s very little complex parts on this album, in fact the songs are quite accessible and remind me of both Asia & the Canadian band, Xinema.

One of my favorites off the album is “Alpha Centauri” (6:13) of which I said, on my review of the EP, has a melodic feel to it and towards the end of the song there’s something that sounds like “Watchers Of The Skies”. Another favorite of mine is “Dawn Of A New Beginning” (4:21) which has an ELO meets Asia vibe happening.

If you’re looking for the typical Italian progressive music, then you’ll be disappointed. If you don’t mind the more accessible type of music then I would strongly suggest you look into this band ASAP! I would recommend them primarily to fans of Rush, Asia, speaking of which, John Payne guests on “New Gemini’s Rising” (5:59) as well as Xinema, Marillion and IQ.
