The Review:

Razor Wire Shrine returns to the music world with a follow-up to their debut, Going Deaf For A Living, with an even heavier, thrashy, technical, brutal slice of progressive metal on The Power Of Negative Thinking. The band is still in a trio format with Chris Rodler (bass, rhythm guitar), Brett Rodler (drums) and Mike Ohm (lead guitar). Although I’m not a big fan of this style of progressive metal, I found the music to be more appealing than the debut.

This is a short album that focuses on the compositions rather than the extended jams most other bands in the genre tend to do. Two bands that I’m, reminded of are Cynic and Scale The Summit but RWS tends to lean more to the heavier elements that recall parts of the thrash metal genre of the mid-80‘s. In fact, they update that sound blended with progressive metal for brutal assault of the senses.

The Brothers Rodler are amazing musicians and sadly underrated. I feel this album should put the band of the map for more to enjoy. Recommended for the aforementioned bands as well as others in the extreme metal camp.
